What it costs, and what happens after you send it

How much does a septic system cost?
Published Florida ranges put a new conventional gravity system in Marion County at $5,000 to $9,000 and an enhanced nutrient-reducing (ENR) system, the kind the springs rules require, at $20,000 to $35,000. Which one applies depends on whether your parcel sits inside the springs BMAP, so confirm it on the FDEP springs map before budgeting. Tank pumping runs $250 to $600 and a real-estate inspection $250 to $500. Third-party figures reviewed April 2026, not our prices and not a quote.
What are the permit fees?
Set by statute, not by the contractor. Section 381.0066(2), Florida Statutes caps the OSTDS construction permit at $25 to $125 and the site evaluation at $40 to $115. These are on top of the work.
How fast will someone get back to me?
Calls and form submissions reach Compass Camper LLC directly. We read the request and pass it to an independent licensed septic contractor, usually within about an hour during the day. The contractor then contacts you to look at the site and price the work on their own schedule.
What work is covered?
Installation, drainfield replacement, repair, tank pumping, real-estate inspections, aerobic treatment units and advanced treatment for springs parcels. See every service.

Only the licensed contractor we send your request to can price your actual job. Compass Camper LLC does not perform septic work and does not quote it.

How to pick a septic company in Marion County

Start with the credential, because it is the one thing about a local septic company you can check yourself, free, in about two minutes. The septic tank contractor credential in Florida is a state registration rather than a licence: section 489.553(2), Florida Statutes, makes the department responsible for granting certificates of registration, and section 489.551(1) defines that department as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. A plumbing contractor certified under part I of chapter 489 who provides septic tank contracting services is the other route into this work. Our septic tank installers page walks through the two free public searches and what to ask for on the first call.

Florida writes two grades into the statute, and which one you need depends on the job. Section 489.551(4) defines a septic tank contractor as one with the skill to install, maintain, repair and alter onsite systems, and to perform site evaluations for repairs where the site-evaluation expertise established by rule is met. Section 489.551(2) defines a master septic tank contractor as unlimited in the septic tank trade, and that definition is the one that names designing systems, where not prohibited by law, and performing and submitting soil evaluations. If your job turns on a design or a soil evaluation rather than a standard installation, ask which grade is doing that part, and ask the Department about your own property before you sign anything.

Sections 489.551 and 489.553, Florida Statutes, read in full August 18, 2026.

Which septic tank service does your property need?

Most calls sort into five jobs, and knowing which one you have makes the first conversation with a septic contractor much shorter.

Wet ground, slow drains, or a smell over the field
That points at the absorption side of the system, which is the largest job on this list. Start with drain field repair and replacement.
Building on a vacant lot, or the old system is finished
A new system is permitted work with a site evaluation behind it. See septic system installation, and if the parcel sits in a springs protection zone, an advanced treatment system may be required.
Something is broken but the system is not finished
Cracked tank, failed pump, collapsed baffle, damaged lid. That is septic tank repair.
Nothing is wrong, the tank is just due
Routine, scheduled work. See septic tank pumping service for how the interval is actually judged.
Buying or selling a property on septic
The system needs looking at before the deal closes. See septic tank inspections.

Septic in Marion County, done by the book

Marion County is sandy, spring-fed, and growing fast. New systems and drainfield replacements are permitted projects with real rules around soils, setbacks, and water quality. As of July 1, 2025, onsite sewage (OSTDS) permits here are administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Our Marion County septic permit guide walks through that process, and our 67-county table of Florida septic permit authority shows which agency issues the permit anywhere in the state.

Frequently asked questions

How does the referral service work?

Tell us about your property and project using the quote form. We forward your request to a licensed local septic contractor who can fulfill it. The contractor contacts you to schedule a free, no-obligation quote.

How much does it cost to use Marion County Septic?

Nothing. The service is free for property owners, and you are never obligated to hire the contractor we send your request to.

What kinds of septic projects do you help with?

Planned and routine work: new septic system installation, full drainfield replacement, routine septic tank pumping, septic system repair, aerobic and advanced treatment (ENR) systems, septic for new construction, and real-estate septic inspections. For an emergency, like sewage backing up into your home right now, contact a local company directly.

Who handles the septic permit and the work?

The licensed contractor we send your request to. In Florida, onsite sewage (OSTDS) permits for Marion County are administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) as of July 1, 2025. Your contractor manages the permit, site evaluation, and installation.

Are the contractors licensed and insured?

We send your request to licensed local septic contractors. Confirm the credential yourself before work begins: Florida registers septic tank contractors with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (sections 489.551(1) and 489.553(2), Florida Statutes), and a plumbing contractor certified under part I of chapter 489 who provides septic tank contracting services is the other route into this work. Also confirm current insurance. Contractor license numbers are available upon request.

How do I find septic tank service near me in Marion County?

Tell us the property address and what it needs, and we forward the request to a licensed local septic contractor who works that part of Marion County. There is no charge and no obligation. If you would rather shortlist companies yourself first, Florida registers septic tank contractors rather than licensing them: section 489.553(2), Florida Statutes, puts the granting of certificates of registration with the department, and section 489.551(1) defines that department as the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The register is public and free to search.

Do you rank or recommend specific septic companies?

No. We do not publish a ranked list of local septic companies, and we make no claim about any contractor beyond forwarding your request to one who is licensed and works in your area. The checks that are worth making are the ones you can verify yourself: the state registration, current insurance, and a written scope and price before work starts.
